About the One Does Not Simply meme

One Does Not Simply is Boromir (Sean Bean) at the Council of Elrond in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), making a small circle with his fingers as he explains that “one does not simply walk into Mordor.” It was one of the earliest image macros, in heavy use by 2011, and it has never gone away.

The top line is fixed by convention — “One does not simply” — and the bottom line finishes the sentence with a task that is deceptively difficult. The humour comes from applying Boromir's gravity to something trivial: leaving a meeting on time, eating one crisp, opening a new tab without opening ten.

It dates from the earliest wave of Impact-font image macros around 2011, which is why it still reads as a classic.
