About AI Meme Maker
AI Meme Maker turns one sentence into a set of memes. You describe a situation, an opinion or an awkward moment; a language model writes captions in the format each template is known for; your browser renders the result. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, no watermark.
Who makes it
One developer, no company
Built and written by one solo developer
AI Meme Maker is a one-person side project. It exists because every “AI meme generator” on the market either watermarked the output, demanded a sign-up before showing a single result, or produced captions that missed the format entirely. This is the tool that was missing: type the situation, get six real attempts, keep the one that lands.
Every guide on this site is written by hand, every example meme is made with the tool, and what shipped goes in the changelog each week. Numbers, decisions and failures get shared in public as they happen.
How it works
- Templates: 195 classic formats from the open-source memegen project (MIT license — see the third-party notices), each with its real text-box layout, so captions land where they are supposed to. The photos themselves belong to their respective rights holders; see the DMCA page for takedowns.
- Captions: written by hosted large language models (OpenAI, with Cloudflare Workers AI, Groq, Google Gemini and OpenRouter as fallbacks). The site pays for this so you don't have to.
- Rendering: done on your device with the HTML canvas — the image never leaves your browser unless you share it.
Honesty policy
Every feature listed on this site exists and works today. We don't display fake user counts or ratings. When we add something new it shows up in the changelog and nowhere before that. Template pages are added in small, hand-written batches rather than generated in bulk.
