Is this AI meme generator really free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no paid tier today. A per-IP limit on generations per minute and per day keeps it free for everyone. If a paid plan ever appears it will be announced in the changelog first.
Which AI model writes the captions?
OpenAI’s current small model first, with Cloudflare Workers AI, Groq, Google Gemini and OpenRouter as fallbacks. Your prompt goes to whichever provider handles the request; the Privacy page lists what each does with API traffic. The image itself never leaves your device.
Can I make a meme without the AI?
Yes. Pick a template (or your photo) and click “Write it myself” to open a blank version in the editor and type your own text.
Can I get just the caption, without an image?
Yes. The “Captions only” tab writes ten standalone one-liners for a post, story or photo, each with a copy button. Any of them can be turned into a meme with one click. It has its own page at /meme-caption-generator.
Can I use the memes commercially?
We claim no rights over the captions or the images you make. The template photos belong to third parties; meme use is widely tolerated, but a commercial campaign may need permission from the rights holder.
Does it work in languages other than English?
