About the Ancient Aliens meme
Ancient Aliens is Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, a regular on the History Channel series of the same name, which began in 2010 and argues that extraterrestrials shaped human history. A frame of him mid-explanation — wild hair, hands spread, absolutely certain — spread in 2011 with a paraphrase of his on-screen reasoning: “I'm not saying it was aliens… but it was aliens.”
As a template it is a way to blame something inexplicable on one ridiculous cause. Most versions leave the top line for a mystery (“Socks disappearing in the dryer”) and finish with “Aliens” at the bottom, but it works with any single, confidently wrong explanation. The joke is Tsoukalos's certainty: the less evidence there is, the more sure he looks.
