About the Futurama Fry meme
Futurama Fry is Philip J. Fry squinting suspiciously in the Futurama episode “The Lesser of Two Evils” (2000). The screenshot became an image macro around 2010–2011 with the caption pattern “Not sure if X… or Y”, and it was one of the most-used templates of the early meme-generator era.
The format is a moment of genuine uncertainty between two readings of the same situation: is that person flirting or just being polite, is the code working or did it just fail silently. The top line opens with “Not sure if”, the bottom line starts with “Or”. It is funniest when both options are plausible and neither is good.
